Linux Professional Institute Launches LPIC-3 Certification Program

The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) has been running some pilot level 3 exams for a while. See: LPI to run free LPI level 3 (beta) exams at LinuxWorld Expo.

They have now officially launched the LPIC-3 certification program. The following extract is taken from their press release:
Linux Professional Institute Launches LPIC-3 Certification Program

“The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world’s premier Linux certification organization and its affiliate LPI-Japan jointly launched the LPIC-3 certification program. LPIC-3 represents the highest level of distribution-neutral Linux certification within the industry and is targeted at Linux professionals providing IT services at the enterprise level. The certification consists of a single exam (LPI-301) and additional speciality certifications.”

I’ve decided that I won’t be taking the LPIC-3 exam, or adding practice exams to Penguin Tutor website in the foreseeable future. This is partly due to moving at work to a less technical role (I’m now a project manager), and also that I’d like to concentrate on developing the resources for those working towards LPIC-1 and LPIC-2. Another reason for me is that I think the LPIC-3 exams are a bit too specific focusing on activities that I’ve not really been involved in (ie. Samba and LDAP). I have used samba at home, but not at work, and I have not used LDAP at all.
