Can’t stand the heat – Monitoring CPU and computer temperature in Linux

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I have a overheating problem with my desktop computer at the moment. We are experiencing some of the hotest July temperatures in the UK and my PC doesn’t seam to cope. I am running Fedora FC5, and whilst it is generally OK, but if I run a CPU intensive application the temperature of the PC […]

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

As I’ve mentioned on my web site I’ve been involved in St. John Ambulance Theatre Shows in the past, particularly in Theatre Computer Animation using Macromedia Flash. This years show will not have any stage projection, but I am creating a Autocue program, which will be assisting with some of the lyrics. The program will […]

Coundon Wedge, Coventry – Park with access for pushchairs and limited disabled access

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

It is with a little embarrassment that I write this post, in that I never discovered Coundon Wedge long before. I have been living in Coventry for over 7 years, about 20 minutes walk from Coundon Wedge, but never really knew what it was. Now I have found it I want to keep going back. […]

Review: Panasonic SD Audio Player – AAC, WMA and MP3 (SV-SD300 / SV-SD350V), with SD-Jukebox Version 5

Friday, July 21st, 2006

This is a review of the Panasonic SD Audio Player SV-SD300. The title mentions the SV-SD350V, which is a similar product, but includes a radio and the ability to record voice memos. I have included it here as it uses the same software, and I believe the review will apply to that model the same. […]

Should Cycle Helmets be Mandatory?

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

A comment I’ve seen recently is that Helmets should become a legal requirements for cycles just like it currently is for Motorised bikes in the UK. This would be using the polystyrene type of cycle helmets rather than the full protection offered by motorcycle full face crash helmets. In fact one of the questions asked […]

Linux Advocacy – New Linux User

Monday, July 17th, 2006

I have passed a copy of the Ubuntu Desktop CD on to a friend, who it looks like will convert completely to open source. The unusual thing is that he’s not a “techie” or even an advanced computer user, he’s just a regular user wanting something other than Windows. I think that one incentive was […]

Coventry Power Cut – Web Site Outage

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

There was a large power cut in the Coventry area last night which caused an outage on my websites www.WatkissOnline.co.uk and www.FirstAidQuiz.com. My www.PenguinTutor.com web site is hosted and was unaffected. A large area of Coventry appeared to be hit by the power cut. The town centre looked OK, but looking out from that there […]

Adding a Search Engine to the Mozilla Firefox Searchbar (MozSearch Plugin)

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

This will take you step by step through creating a custom entry on the Firefox Searchbar. A popular reason for doing this is if you have an Intranet with a search engine. As it allows you to then search your intranet as simply as it would using Google, or another Internet search engine. One of […]

LPIC level 2 exam 201 online practice test at PenguinTutor.com

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Earlier this week I successfully passed the LPIC 201 exam. Whilst I was revising I created a number of questions based on the 201 objectives to add to the already popular LPI 101 and LPI 102 practice Exams at Penguin Tutor. When I took the exam I noticed that one questions was almost identical and […]
