		<description>Shiv,

You may like to take a look at another post of mine at: http://www.watkissonline.co.uk/wordpress/?p=945 . This post explains the tools I used.

Assuming you are running Ubuntu 8.10 then you should be able to install most of the applications from Synaptic:
System -&gt; Administration -&gt; Synaptic Package Manager

If you want different software or a more recent version of kdenlive (which I used) then you should be able to follow the instructions on their website.
eg. http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/ubuntu-packages

It sounds like the later version will be included in the next release of Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) due to be released during April.

Note that video editing on linux is improving all the time. I&#039;m still quite new into it myself and I will publish my experiences as I make progress, so you may also like to check back on my blog in future.

Have a go and if you do get stuck feel free to contact me again explaining the specific problem, or another great source of information for Ubuntu is the Ubuntu Forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/

<description>I am also a Microsoft fugitive. I had enough of Vista on my new Toshiba Qosmio laptop. I would like to replace Windows Vista by Linux so that I could use it for non-linear editing. I am looking for some guidance to replicate Stewart&#039;s success but don&#039;t know how because I am just a journalist and not a geek like you guys. I was wondering if anyone could help me set this up for me. Please guide me to the right source if you can. I would love to get rid of this sluggish Vista as it is hopeless.

I need to initiate myself into Linux for all its obvious advantages over microsoft.

Regards
