Monday, January 30th, 2012

I have already written a initial review of the Asus Eee pad transformer TF101. The first review was written when I had just received it. I’ve now had time to put it through it’s paces and find it’s good and bad points. Android tablet Android is a Linux based operating system specifically designed for use [...]

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Wooden train sets have been a popular toy with children for many years and doesn’t seam to be losing popularity. Many parents will have experienced that time when trying to get on with their shopping whilst your toddler wants to play with the wooden train set on display in a toy shop. The main advantage [...]

This is a review of the Fisher Price Thomas Take-N-Play children toys based on Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. It is a push-along train set with plastic track and diecast metal trains. Book review – In the Shadow of Suribachi by Joyce Faulkner

Sunday, November 6th, 2011

I was provided this ebook directly from the author Joyce Faulkner. I had previously attempted to read an earlier book of hers Book Review – Username by Joyce Faulkner (available DRM Free). Unfortunately it was not a book that I was able to finish as I found the book emotionally quite disturbing. Anyway I left [...]

K’Nex Corkscrew Coaster

Monday, September 12th, 2011

My daughter is only six, but she loves roller coasters. We have season tickets to Drayton Manor Park (home of the Ben 10 roller coaster) and she recently went on Falcon the vertical roller coaster at Duinrell in Holland. Rides that would scare much older children. Amazon.co.uk Widgets So when we were browsing around some [...]

Book reviews for DRM free fiction and non-fiction books

Monday, July 25th, 2011

The problem with DRM Free ebooks is finding the good books, as there are some not so good books around. This also applies to DRM locked ebooks – eg. Amazon.co.uk (especially their free / low-cost self published books), although with DRM books you can turn to the mainstream press for reviews of the latest bestsellers. It does mean that some really good books that don’t get a mainstream publisher may not get the publicity they deserve.

These are just some of the books I’ve read, but they all have one thing in common. They are all available without DRM, so you can read on any ebook reader and on any PC / Tablet / Netbook regardless of the operating system or reader software available.

Book review: Arduino Cookbook

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

The Arduino is a popular open hardware device that has gained a lot of support amongst hobby electronics. I’ve already reviewed some electronic books, including two Arduino books for beginners. The Cookbook series from O’Reilly is better known for software programming books, and despite being named after hardware this book is more about the programming [...]

Fisher-Price Thomas the Tank Engine TrackMaster (Motor Road and Rail) and Tomy Tomica World

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Young children may have already enjoyed playing with the wooden train sets, but as they grow they come to expect a little more than a wooden block with wheels. The Thomas and Friends Trackmaster and/or Tomica trainsets bridge the gap between the wooden my first train sets and the full grown Hornby electronic train sets. [...]

Openoffice.org / LibreOffice Draw template for Epson direct CD print (PX720WD)

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

Since writing my review of the Epson Stylus Multifunction Photo printer PX720WD I’ve been using it more. I’m still very happy with the printer, but there’s just one little thing that needs a bit of a fudge to work, which is CD printing. I’ve only tried this using OpenOffice.org 3 running on Ubuntu (at time [...]
